Brown & Co Electrical Pty Ltd (ABN 30 650 417 324) (“Brown & Co Electrical”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use and disclose it, and the choices you have.
1) Who this Policy covers
This Policy applies to individuals who interact with us, including:
- website visitors and people who submit enquiry, quote or booking forms;
- customers and end-users of our electrical services (e.g., homeowners, body corporates, holiday parks);
- after-hours/emergency callers;
- subscribers to our emails or updates;
- suppliers and subcontractors; and
- job applicants.
2) The information we collect
2.1 Information you provide to us
- Identity & contact details: name, company, role, email, phone, address.
- Project/booking details: property address, access instructions, job scope, preferred dates, photos or videos you upload.
- Compliance information: test results (e.g., RCD trip times), installation photos, certificates, reports and signatures associated with your property.
- Billing & payment details: invoice and payment records; (if you pay online, card details are collected by our payment provider—not stored by us).
- Communications: emails, messages, call recordings/notes (including after-hours service calls).
- Recruitment: CV, work history, licences, references (if you apply for a role).
2.2 Information we collect automatically
- Website analytics & cookies: IP address, device type, browser, pages viewed, time on site, and referring URLs. See Section 8 (Cookies).
2.3 Information we receive from others
- Referrals & property managers/strata: contact and property details supplied by your agent or manager.
- Service partners: information from subcontractors and suppliers assisting on your job.
- Public sources: e.g., property data to confirm service location.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive information unless it is necessary for our functions (e.g., safety or site access needs) and you have provided it.
3) Why we collect and use your information
We collect, hold, use and disclose personal information to:
- provide quotations, bookings and deliver electrical services you request;
- verify identity, schedule technicians and access sites safely;
- carry out testing, produce compliance documentation and certificates;
- communicate before, during and after works (including after-hours updates);
- issue invoices, process payments and handle enquiries or complaints;
- maintain records for legal, warranty and insurance purposes;
- improve our services, website and customer experience; and
- send service updates and marketing (with an easy opt-out).
4) Lawful basis (APPs) / our reasons
Under the APPs we collect only what is reasonably necessary for our functions. Typically, we rely on:
- Your consent (e.g., marketing subscriptions, optional photos you upload);
- Performance of a contract/engagement (providing quotes, bookings and services);
- Legitimate interests (running and protecting our business, improving services); and
- Legal obligations (tax, accounting, licensing and electrical compliance records).
5) Marketing choices
We may send you service updates, safety tips and promotions relevant to electrical work. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link or contacting us (see Section 14). We will not sell your personal information.
6) Disclosing your information
We may disclose personal information to:
- Staff, licensed electricians and vetted subcontractors who need it to perform your job;
- Service providers (e.g., web hosting, IT support, email/SMS platforms, job management systems, cloud storage, survey tools, analytics);
- Payment processors (e.g., Stripe/Square) who process your payment securely (we do not store full card details);
- Property managers, body corporates or builders involved in your project (only as necessary);
- Insurers, advisors or regulators (where required by law or to establish/exercise our legal rights); and
- Any third party with your consent.
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to confidentiality.
7) Overseas disclosure
Some service providers or data hosting may be located outside Australia. Where practicable, we take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients comply with privacy obligations comparable to the APPs (e.g., contractual safeguards). You may contact us to learn which countries currently host or process your data.
8) Cookies, analytics & tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to operate our website and improve performance.
Types of cookies we may use:
- Strictly necessary – required for core site features (cannot be disabled).
- Performance/analytics – e.g., Google Analytics to understand site usage.
- Functional – remember preferences (e.g., forms).
- Marketing – if enabled (e.g., Meta/Google ads) to measure campaigns.

9) Data security

- staff and contractor confidentiality obligations; and
- secure disposal or de-identification when no longer required.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will follow the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme and take appropriate steps to notify affected individuals and the OAIC.
10) Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. For example:
- tax and accounting records are generally retained for 7 years;
- electrical compliance and warranty records may be kept for the relevant statutory or warranty period;
- unsuccessful job applications are typically retained for up to 12 months (unless you ask us to delete them sooner).
We may retain de-identified or aggregated information for analytics.
11) Access and correction (APP 12 & 13)
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you or ask us to correct it if it’s inaccurate, out-of-date or incomplete. We’ll respond within a reasonable time. Where we cannot provide access, we’ll tell you why (e.g., legal privilege or others’ privacy).
12) Third-party websites
Our website may link to third-party sites (e.g., manufacturers, payment portals). We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review their policies before providing your information.
13) Children
Our services are directed to adults. If you believe a child under 16 has provided personal information to us without a parent/guardian’s consent, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

15) Complaints

16) Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The latest version will be posted on our website with the “Last updated” date. Continued use of our services after changes indicates acceptance of the updated Policy.
